Hello
We all know that the French are renowned for loving their food and wine and this is a key part of their culture.
However, in the past few years, the weather hasn’t been that kind to them and parts of Europe, which means their harvests have been smaller and according to the trading bodies the demands for their top quality Bordeaux and Burgundy has reduced. Also the younger generation are not so interested in having careers in hospitality and enjoying the finer things such as a glass of wine anymore, although this is not just a French problem.
Aside of this, one cannot ever disregard the variety and quality of wines produced today across France’s 11 main wine regions such as Champagne, the Loire, Chablis, Burgundy, Rhone and Bordeaux, and we are very proud to stock some of these quality wines.
At Lottsofwine, we don’t stock a large range of French wines for two main reasons. One as France is the closest country to us, naturally the UK imports a lot of their wines and two as we handpick the producers we work with, we are a little more choosy.
Sauvignon Blanc excels in the Loire Valley and our two wines (Domaine F. Cartier, Touraine and Domaine A & S Dezat, Sancerre) are equally as good but taste quite different due to the climate and terroir.

Our small but delightful range of wines from Chablis and Burgundy are distinctive wines from family producers such as Jean Durup and Vincent Giradin are great examples of good value wines from this region.

Our two small producers from the Rhone which is where the Syrah/Shiraz grape originates from are quite different, one is based in the Northern Rhone and their wine is a Cote du Rhone which is a 100% Syrah, and the other producer whose estate dates back 300 years based in the South near Nimes produce a white (Viognier), Rose (Syrah, Vermentino blend) and Red (Syrah).
With c6,000 growers in Bordeaux, we showcase four wines; two from Chateau Lestrille Capmartin which is situated in Entre deux Mers (situated between the left and right bank) dates back to 1901. Chateau Siran in Margaux has been in the same family for 160 years and Chateau Roudier based in St Emilion has been going for four centuries.
