This month, I have chosen a mixture of whites and red due to our ever changing weather, and we are visiting Alto Adige in the North and Puglia and Sicily in the South of this country that has 20 wine regions. Alto Adige which borders the Alps in the North West is renowned for producing some of the best Pinot Bianco in the world and for me Cantina Tramin’s does not disappoint. This winery also produces a fantastic Gewurztraminer too.
Puglia is very known for its food scene and as a holiday destination but is sometimes overlooked for their wines, which is a mistake in my book. I have been an admirer of their wines for several years as theirs are so versatile and easy to drink with any occasion. San Marzano was founded in 1962 by a collective of local growers and has since won numerous awards. Grapes such as Vermentino, Negroamaro and Primitivo excel in these hot conditions and are great examples of some of the wines this excellent winery produces.
Sicily, is very well known for its volcano’s and rugged landscape, it is also making excellent wines and Baglio Gibellina’s Passimento is a great red blend of Nero d’Avola/Frappato which is very easy to drink at anytime of the year and goes with pretty much anything!
