This lovely winery is located way up high along the eastern edge of the Andes mountains in Vistaflores, a tiny appellation within the Uco Valley – one of the most spectacular wine regions on Earth. Here co-owners and close friends Alfredo Merlo (the winemaker) and Matias Fraga (the viticulturalist) make MAAL wines, which simply stands for “Malbec As Alfredo Likes”.
It’s all about Malbec for Alfredo and Matias, produced in varying styles and grown 900m to 1,350m above sea level. Rebelión is MAAL’s first wine to be made by blending grapes from different vineyards – a radical change, hence the name. It combines the elegance of Las Compuertas, with the freshness of Vistaflores and the power of Campo Los Andes.
