Feudi di San Gregorio, 'Pietracalda', Fiano, Avellino, Campania, Italy
One of the main protagonists in the renaissance of Southern Italian wines, Feudi di San Gregorio has carved out a reputation for making truly world-class wines in less than 30 years. The company began in the mid 1980’s with the aim of safeguarding local traditions and unlocking the potential of key indigenous grapes such as Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and Aglianico. The finest Fiano grapes have been selected for this wine. Careful selection of the grapes took place prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of between 16 to 18°C. This helped to capture all the purity of fruit and varietal characteristics of the Fiano variety. The wine was then matured for four to five months on its lees, with frequent bâtonnage for a greater texture and complexity. The distinctive bottle has been designed by Massimo Vignelli embracing the wine with elegant fluting. A delicious wine showing restrained lemon and mineral aromatics through to a vibrant and persistent finish.
